The Doc ROMinator REPORT

Preventative Computer Maintenance

Remove Temporary Files

It is recommended that you perform some clean-up on your computer monthly.

This includes removing internet temporary files.

  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click on the “Tools” menu
  • Select “Internet Options”
    • “General” Tab
    • Delete Cookies
    • Delete Files (check the box for “Delete Offline Content”)

The computer also retains temporary files from while you are working in programs (i.e., Word, WordPerfect). These files are stored on your computer in a location based on a command from your operating system. The easiest way to view these files is as follows:

  • Start
  • Run
  • Type in %temp% and click OK

(Note: this should pull up the “temp” folder displaying a few folders and many files that begin with a “~” and end with “.tmp”. If you are not sure you are viewing the correct folder, then do not proceed…(contact Doc ROMinator for additional assistance.)

  • Click on the “Edit” menu
  • “Select All”
  • Press the “Delete” key.
  • Answer “Yes” to delete all.
